This one-hour participatory side event at the Future of Health Conference, Abuja, will convene African civil society organisations to test Version 1 of the 7-1-7 and ETDH CSO Advocacy Toolkit. After a walkthrough, participants will join small-group breakouts to assess its clarity, relevance, usability and applicability. Their feedback will refine tools that help CSOs hold governments accountable for faster outbreak detection, notification and response, strengthening epidemic preparedness across the continent.

Parallel Session 02
Family Planning as a Pathway for Maternal Mortality Reduction

The side event will explore how family planning can be better integrated into Nigeria’s maternal mortality reduction efforts, particularly through the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII). Through interactive discussions and collaborative working groups, participants will examine opportunities across MAMII’s six strategic pillars, with a focus on sustainable financing, service delivery, community engagement and accountability. The session aims to generate actionable recommendations, identify priority actions and strengthen stakeholder collaboration to position family planning as an essential component of Nigeria’s broader maternal health agenda and accelerate efforts to reduce preventable maternal deaths.

Advancing Maternal Health: Connecting Innovation, Evidence and Systems for Sustainable Impact

The session will showcase evidence-backed maternal health innovations being implemented across Nigeria and explore what it takes to scale proven solutions sustainably. Through stories of change and a multi-stakeholder panel, the discussion will examine the policy, financing, digital infrastructure and health system integration needed to move effective interventions beyond individual projects into routine service delivery. The session aims to generate actionable recommendations and stakeholder commitments to improve maternal health outcomes nationwide.
